I said for years that black cardigans were what my nan wore to church, and I want that on record because I was completely wrong and I’ve eaten those words in front of three different shop assistants now. Styling wise, this is where they earn their keep. Over a slip dress with boots, it stops the whole outfit looking like you forgot a jacket. Buttoned up alone with trousers and loafers, it does the job of a blazer without the stiffness, which is the combination I now wear to nearly every meeting that isn’t in a boardroom.
