Your tweed blazer will work overtime thanks to texture, not trends. The fabric does most of the heavy lifting here with its flecked, intentionally rough surface refracting light in ways that flat wool or cotton just won’t, and it’s that texture that marks the difference between a blazer worth investing in and a suit jacket in drag. When shopping, look for a tweed that has obvious depth to the yarn – some contrast fleck or bouclé woven through- because if you can identify just one flat colour looking across the room, the fabric has failed at its job.
Fit is important here more than most jackets as tweed holds its shape and does not drape like a softer wool will. It should have a bit of structure through the shoulder—not sharp and padded, just enough to maintain its shape rather than collapsing on itself as you move. The best versions will taper gently at the waist and end somewhere around the hip bone.

It should create a line that works whether you leave it buttoned over a dress or open with the sleeves rolled up.
Too long and it’ll start to feel like someone else’s coat. Too fitted and you lose all of that lovely, slightly rumpled, worn in feel that makes tweed feel like clothing rather than costume.

How you wear it is mostly about juxtaposition. Tweed wants to be worn against something soft and plain—a thin knit, simple shirt, slip dress if the weather’s permitting—so that the texture can be the focus of your outfit rather than fighting with patterns or shine.
Denim works because it mirrors the texture of the fabric. A straight or wide leg in a dark wash is ideal. It works equally well trousers that have been dressed up with a cigarette or something more tailored for moments that need a slightly smarter feel without going full-on suits. Classic jewellery will feel at home here; signet rings, simple gold chains, because the fabric can handle a little weight.
This is a great jacket for that space between monday morning meeting and black tie evening event; client lunches, art gallery openings, lectures, or that long lunch that ends up as evening drinks. It photographs well because there’s always something happening with texture, even in low light, and it layers easily over knitwear when it starts to cool down, making it one of those rare pieces that genuinely feels useful come fall thru spring.
