I spent an embarrassing amount of 2019 convinced blue lace tops were a costume, not clothing. Something you’d wear to a hen do in Marbella and never again. I was wrong, and I’ve had four years to sit with that.

Occasion wise, this is a category that overperforms. It does a summer wedding as a guest without trying too hard, it does a dinner where you want to look like you made an effort without announcing it, and it does a Tuesday when you’re bored of everything else in the rotation and need one item to make the outfit feel finished. What it doesn’t do is cold weather without backup, so a slip underneath and something to throw over for the walk there is not optional, it’s just sense.
