Yellow is the colour that people talk themselves out of the most and then regret when they see how great it looks on someone else. It works in a maxi skirt because the length lets the shade whisper instead of scream. If it pools to the ankle in a substantial crepe or a fluid satin that catches light as it moves instead of lays flat against the body, that movement dilutes the severity of what can otherwise be quite a strong colour. The ones worth buying for will probably sit high on the waist with some structure through the hip to help it keep shape without clinging, as yellow this bold will show every pull and crease if the fabric is too light or too rigid.
Fabric is everything. Cheap-looking and limp cotton will crease within minutes of you sitting down, while something silky and fluid like viscose or a heavier satin will drape well and swing when you walk, which is crucial for a colour that will always look different in person than it does in photos and from far away.

Choose something with a little body to it. You want a slight sheen to the finish rather than something flat and matte, as that shine is what will keep mustard or lemon shades from looking greyish in fluorescent light.
As for styling, tread lightly. Black will obviously match with everything and will do it well, whether thats fairly slim knit tuckctured blazer left open over it. White will feel crisp and keep the whole look suitable for daytime. Navy is actually pretty underused here and it breaks up the yellow without distracting from it.

You really dont want to crowd the skirt with other bold colours or prints; its doing all the heavy lifting in this outfit. Pair it with a simple tee and neutral sandals and let the silhouette and shade speak for themselves.
This is one for daytime and fitted around occasionwear, things with a little more ceremony to them. Garden parties, summer weddings (a guest, not the bride though obvs you can do whatever you want) long lunches, anywhere with lots of light and space. It doesnt work as much for low light cramped evening occasions where it sort of blends into the background. Sandals for day and ease, a heel if you want to dress it up. But keep everything else simple. The skirt speaks volumes.
