Pink suits more people than they think it does, which is the bit nobody tells you when you're stood in front of a rail convincing yourself you're not a pink person. Warmer, dustier pinks flatter nearly every skin tone going. The ones to think twice about are the very bright, bluish pinks if your skin leans sallow or olive, they can make you look a bit washed out under office lighting, no matter how good they looked on the model.
Pink earns its spot next to the plain things in your wardrobe rather than the other loud ones. Denim is the obvious one, raw or washed, it takes the edge off a top that's already doing enough work colourwise. Camel, grey marl, black trousers or a leather look skirt all let the pink be the whole point rather than fighting for attention. Gold jewellery tends to sit better with pink than silver, it warms the whole thing up. Where fit goes wrong is almost always in the shoulder or the armhole on anything with a bit of structure, jersey pink tops stretch out across the chest if you size down thinking pink equals delicate equals small, and cotton poplin pink shirts do the opposite, they can go stiff and boxy if you size up for comfort. Check the side seam sits where your actual side is, not an inch forward, and if there's a V neck, try the bend test, lean forward in the changing room before you commit.
How these wear depends almost entirely on the fabric, far more than the colour does. Cheap polyester pink tops hold their colour well, which is the one thing they've got going for them, but they pill under a bag strap within a few wears and go a bit see through at the shoulders eventually. Cotton and cotton blends soften nicely and keep their shape, but pink cotton is the one that fades fastest in a hot wash, so cold water and turning it inside out actually matters here, more than it does for darker colours. Viscose pink tops drape beautifully but crease if you so much as look at them and they go thin at the elbows over a season, so a gentle wash and drying flat rather than on a hanger keeps them going longer. Anything with a bit of silk or satin sheen in pink shows deodorant marks under the arms quicker than you'd expect, so a wipe before you wear it is worth the thirty seconds.
A good pink top, once you've found your shade, tends to get worn far more than you plan for when you buy it.
